I’ve written out four different posts about Steve Rogers and his canonical ending and Sam and Bucky and SamBucky and feelings I have about all that, but I just keep deleting them as they approach paragraph three of my screed because I don’t want to talk about the MCU that much 

But if I was going to talk about it I’d talk a bit about how the decision to have Steve travel to the past is so bad for such a lot of reasons already discussed but also in cool new ways as seen in the winter falcon show where every character is like “well Steve’s gone” because they can’t get Chris Evans in old person makeup to talk to his best friend but they also can’t commit to saying he died off screen, AND it cements Steve as this paragon of goodness who never made any mistakes which would be fine if that was just how Bucky viewed him or how Sam viewed him or how America viewed him, but the hagiography of Steve Rogers is so complete and pervasive in the narrative. It’s boring! It’s bad! And also Sharon is right, she should have gotten a pardon a long fucking time ago! Bucky and Sam were blipped out of existence for five years, meanwhile I guess Steve just forgot she existed after Civil War. And furthermore yeah let’s circle back to the time travel thing because that’s so ah FUCK GODDAMN IT I DIDN’T WANT TO DO THIS 

There’s a collegehumor sketch about someone who wants to go back to the 90s for pop culture stuff but once they get there, spoiler warning for the twist I guess, the radical time wizard is like “now that you’re here you have an ethical obligation to stop 9/11″

Steve’s canonical ending is him being like “oh time wizard, I care about neither the larger geopolitical events such as the Vietnam war or nor smaller atrocities such my best friend who is currently at this time a brainwashed tortured assassin who is going to kill JFK which I also don’t care about. I am just here to wear high waisted slacks and have heterosexual missionary sex with a character who used to have a TV show and now doesn’t even have lines.”
